Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
