This winter recruitment period is always a time of intense speculation and potential major deals. A number of prominent players find themselves linked with transfers out of their current teams. This article explores some of the key names who are poised to be on the move in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Although Ghana's failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, which has kept the player available, it appears a major move is close. This Bournemouth attacker has a contract with a £65 million buy-out clause active for a brief period in early January. Recent developments suggest Manchester City have emerged as his signature. Other interested parties such as Chelsea and Tottenham reportedly have turned their attention to alternative options, potentially opening the door for teams like Manchester United or Liverpool to make a late move.

M. Guéhi

This England defender has continued to impress for Crystal Palace despite a summer transfer to Anfield falling through. With his deal set to run out in the summer, this represents the club's final opportunity to obtain a transfer fee for their skipper. A host of top clubs, including Manchester City and several continental powerhouses including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, are believed to be interested. Yet, a winter exit is considered difficult, particularly given the manager's reliance on the defender.

Brennan Johnson

This Welsh forward has found starting minutes hard to come by at Tottenham this term. Although finishing as the side's leading goalscorer the previous campaign, he has begun just a small number of Premier League games. Reports suggest the North London club is willing to consider a transfer for the right valuation, thought to be in the around £40 million. Bournemouth appear to be at the front of the queue, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also credited with an interest.

Rúben Neves

The Portugal playmaker might be set for a return to the Premier League after a spell in the Saudi Pro League. Still only 28, while his agreement ending in the summer, he represents a possible opportunity. Teams like Manchester United and Liverpool are connected to the player. Furthermore, there are suggestions from Spanish media that he is willing to take a reduced salary for a move to the Spanish giants.

Marc-André ter Stegen

This experienced German goalkeeper finds himself as third-choice at Barcelona under the manager Hansi Flick. Having lost his place and had surgery, a January departure seems increasingly probable. Villa were once mentioned as a possible suitor, but that option currently seems off. Instead, clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are thought to be showing interest in the keeper.

I. Toney

The prolific English centre-forward has continued scoring regularly in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League might boost his dwindling hopes of being in the national World Cup. However, securing a transfer presents significant hurdles. His current club are reluctant to part with him, and his alleged huge salary make any agreement difficult. With his existing deal nearing its end, many Premier League sides – including Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are keeping tabs on the developments. The Turin club are desperate to tie down the 20-year-old to a new long-term agreement but face a race to retain one of the continent's most promising prospects.

K. Smit

This highly-touted Netherlands teenage midfielder has earned parallels to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. Following impressing at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has become a regular in the AZ Alkmaar side. The teenager is widely expected to make a major move in January. Newcastle are believed to be leading the chase, but are facing stiff competition from Real Madrid for a signing priced at approximately twenty-two million pounds.
